Course Overview



Over 4000 couples have taken Dr. Bruce Tallman’s Marriage Preparation Course simply because it is hands-down the best course out there. There is a big difference between a course facilitated by a professional and one by volunteers. There are many great things in this course you won’t get anywhere else.


Marriage preparation is totally different and far more important than anything else on your wedding “to do list” because it prepares you not for just one day (the wedding) but for the rest of your life together, potentially tens of thousands of days! One day = 24 hours; 50 years of marriage = 438,000 hours together!


This course is designed to make sure those years are happy ones, that you become soul-mates sharing life and love, which is the true purpose of marriage.

The Marriage Coach



Dr. Bruce Tallman holds a doctorate in spiritual direction/counselling and coaches married couples as well as engaged couples. From 1988 to 2002 he helped over 1500 couples prepare for marriage in 50 group marriage preparation courses he facilitated for the Roman Catholic Diocese of London.

Since August 2002 he no longer does group sessions but has worked with over 2500 individual engaged and married couples from every Christian denomination as well as couples who are spiritual but not religious. All in all, he has helped over 4000 couples.

Dr. Tallman has been married for many years and understands every kind of struggle couples go through. He and Grace have three wonderful adult children and they are each other’s best friend.



Course Accreditation



Dr. Bruce Tallman’s Marriage Preparation Course is approved by Catholic, Anglican, and Protestant Churches. Dr. Tallman also works with couples who are "spiritual but not religious," that is, who are not getting married by a priest or minister, but want help preparing for this big step.



Convenient Course Scheduling



Dr. Tallman meets with one couple at a time in three 75 minute sessions at mutually convenient times year round on weekdays, evenings, or Saturdays. Usually the sessions are a couple of weeks apart, but if necessary some or all of the sessions can be scheduled back-to-back.



Course Contents:



Session One





Hands-on training in the Couple Communication Method, a tool developed by Dr. Tallman that you won’t get anywhere else. It is fun, romantic, and easy to learn. If you can communicate well, everything else falls into place.



Session Two





You will learn your personality types and how they affect the way you interact as a couple using the Myers-Briggs Personality Inventory.



Session Three





You will learn the four stages of marriage, and principles for marital happiness. Other items are added to the third session depending on whether you are taking the Catholic, Anglican, Protestant, or "Spiritual But Not Religious" course (see below).

The Catholic Course:



In the third session you will also learn about the spirituality of marriage, the Catholic view of marriage as a sacrament, as well as Catholic views of sexuality and natural family planning.


Note: only one of you need to be Catholic to take this course.



The Anglican Course:



In the third session you also will learn about the spirituality of marriage and sexuality, the Anglican view of marriage as a sacrament, and go into depth on family of origin issues (where you came from) and mutual couple goal setting (where you want to go).



The Protestant Course:



In the third session you also will learn about the spirituality of marriage and sexuality, go into depth on family of origin issues (where you came from) and mutual couple goal setting (where you want to go) and learn the five love languages.



The "Spiritual But Not Religious" Course:



In the third session we will focus on family of origin issues, mutual couple goal setting, love languages, and what you learned from the workbook.



Marriage Preparation Workbook



In all versions of the course you will be given a workbook full of fun and very helpful exercises to do at home. It is the most widely used marriage preparation workbook in North America (50,000 couples a year!) It covers finances, children, in-laws, housework, expectations and anything else not covered in the three face-to-face sessions.



Save on the Wedding and Guarantee Your Marriage Will Last:

At the start of the course, each couple receives the handout "How to Have a Wonderful Wedding Without Going into Serious Debt" (an example is given of how to have a wedding, reception and honeymoon for less than $1000.00) At the end of the course, each couple receives the handout "How to Guarantee Your Marriage Will Last."

Cost



$90.00 per hour. This is a very inexpensive rate for marriage counselling, which in Ontario normally ranges between $125 and $275 per 50 minute session.

There is no charge for the digital workbook you receive, as well as four of Dr. Tallman's articles on marriage and sexuality that were published in the London Free Press, and fifteen other handouts on love and marriage. No HST/GST tax is added. One of the handouts is "How to Have a Wonderful Wedding Without Going into Serious Debt."
